Our Statement about Racial Pain and Injustice in our Nation and the World

We at Operatunity Theatre firmly believe that black lives matter and that the impact of racism and white supremacy in the arts community must be acknowledged so that we can end them. We are taking this time to listen to the BIPOC community who are speaking to impact the way we carry out our mission of producing high-quality musical art through offering significant “operatunities” for emerging vocal artists.

Here are some of the organizations, resources, and tools we are learning from:

In order to make art that is meaningful in our world, we must become better at intentionally amplifying diverse voices and committing to inclusion.  As we navigate these early years of growth as an organization, Operatunity Theatre, its administrative team, and its Board of Directors will be a proactive instrument of change in hiring and working with vocal artists of the BIPOC community.  It is our promise to ensure that our personnel and programming reflect our organizational values of accessibility, diversity, and equity.

Operatunity Theatre is a new non-profit opera/musical theatre company with headquarters in Stillwater, MN. The mission of Operatunity Theatre is to produce high quality musical performances in the Twin Cities East Metro (specifically the Stillwater/St. Croix River Valley) area that enrich the arts environment and help amateur artists advance their careers by performing alongside experienced professionals. Our vision is to establish Stillwater and its surroundings as a regional music cultural center with a vibrant community of emerging and professional artists. The goal of the organization is to curate an ongoing regular season of opera/musical theatre productions in Stillwater, including an annual summer music festival, to achieve these ends. We propose providing talented singers from the region the opportunity to gain the stage experience they need move from emerging/amateur status into a full professional career, sustainably bridging the arts in this region to the rest of the nation/world in the process.
